Description

Apple Crumb Cake with Cinnamon Apple Drizzle is a cozy, comforting dessert featuring a moist, apple-studded cake topped with a crisp, buttery crumble and finished with a warm cinnamon-infused drizzle. Perfect for any season and occasion.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon salt

¾ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup sour cream

2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and chopped into small cubes

1 cup all-purpose flour (for crumb topping)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for crumb topping)

¼ teaspoon salt (for crumb topping)

½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed (for crumb topping)

½ cup brown sugar, packed (for crumb topping)

¼ cup granulated sugar (for crumb topping)

1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for drizzle)

½ cup brown sugar, packed (for drizzle)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for drizzle)

2 tablespoons milk (for drizzle)

A pinch of salt (for drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with sour cream. Mix until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the chopped apples. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cinnamon, salt, brown sugar, and granulated sugar for the crumb topping. Cut in the cold cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  7. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the cake batter.
  8. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool slightly.
  9. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, milk, and salt. Stir and cook until smooth and slightly thickened (about 3–5 minutes).
  10. Drizzle the warm cinnamon apple sauce over the cooled cake before serving.

Notes

  • Add chopped nuts to the crumb topping for extra texture and flavor.
  • Use different apple varieties like Honeycrisp or Fuji for varied sweetness.
  • Substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt or buttermilk if needed.
  • Store at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze the cake (without drizzle) for up to 2 months.
