Description

Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts combine tender cinnamon-spiced apples with fluffy waffle batter and a sweet glaze, creating a crispy-yet-soft treat that’s perfect for breakfast, dessert, or snacking.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Pinch of salt

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 large egg

2 tbsp melted butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 medium apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced small

1 tbsp butter

1 tbsp brown sugar

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 cup powdered sugar

23 tbsp milk

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter. Add diced apple, brown sugar, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Cook for 5–7 minutes until apples are tender and caramelized. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Fold in the caramelized apple mixture gently.
  5. Preheat and lightly grease a waffle iron. Spoon batter into the center of each mold, close lid, and cook for 3–4 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer waffle donuts to a wire rack to cool slightly.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust with more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
  7. Dip warm (not hot) waffle donuts into glaze or drizzle glaze over the top. Allow glaze to set before serving.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples for best flavor balance.
  • To make gluten-free, substitute with a gluten-free flour blend.
  • For dairy-free, replace buttermilk with almond milk and use vegan butter.
  • Enhance flavor with extra spices like nutmeg or cloves.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in toaster or oven for best texture; avoid microwaving.
