Description

These Banana Bread Blondies combine the moist, sweet flavor of ripe bananas with the rich taste of chocolate chips, baked into soft, chewy bars. Made with whole wheat flour for added fiber and nutrients, this easy recipe is perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a snack. Quick to prepare and bake, these blondies offer a wholesome twist on traditional banana bread with a delightful chocolatey finish.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 2-3 medium very ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted salted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional

  • Chopped nuts instead of chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Mix Wet Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the melted salted butter and light brown sugar until smooth and combined. Add the mashed ripe bananas, egg, and vanilla extract, stirring until all wet ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
  2. Sift and Combine Dry Ingredients: Using a sifter, add the whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt over the wet mixture. If you don’t have a sifter, mix the dry ingredients separately then add them in. Gently stir with a wooden spoon to combine the batter, being careful not to overmix to avoid toughness.
  3. Add Chocolate Chips: Fold the semi-sweet chocolate chips gently into the batter, ensuring they are evenly distributed without overworking the batter.
  4. Prepare Baking Dish and Bake: Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish. Pour the batter into the dish and smooth the surface gently. Optionally, sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-34 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool and Serve: Allow the blondies to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then carefully remove and cut into 9 bars. Serve warm or at room temperature for a delicious treat.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter once the dry ingredients have been added to keep the blondies tender.
  • For a nutty flavor, substitute chocolate chips with chopped nuts.
  • If your bananas are not very ripe, the blondies may not be as sweet or moist.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
