Ingredients
Meatball Mixture
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp thyme
For Topping
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup marinara sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, chili flakes (if using), chopped fresh parsley, minced garlic, thyme, and egg. Mix thoroughly with your hands until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Form the meatballs: Using a #20 scoop or your hands, portion the mixture into evenly sized meatballs and shape them into round balls.
- First bake: Place the meatballs in a single layer in an oven-safe dish. Bake them in a preheated oven at 390°F (199°C) for 15 minutes.
- Flip and continue baking: Carefully turn each meatball over to ensure even cooking. Bake for an additional 10 minutes until the meatballs are golden brown on the outside.
- Add sauce and cheese: Remove the dish from the oven. Spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs and evenly sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Final bake: Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and turns golden brown.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley or basil leaves, if desired. Serve the meatballs hot with mashed potatoes, pasta, or your preferred side dish.
Notes
- Using fresh herbs enhances the flavor but dried herbs can be substituted if needed.
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of chili flakes or add red pepper flakes.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the baking dish to allow even heat circulation around the meatballs.
- These meatballs can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking for convenience.
- Serve with low-carb sides to keep the meal keto-friendly and low-carb.
