Description

Cinnamon Southern Fried Apples with Pecans is a warm and cozy Southern-inspired dish made with tender apples caramelized in butter, sugar, and cinnamon, and topped with crunchy pecans. It’s versatile enough to be served as a side dish, dessert, or even breakfast.

Ingredients

5 apples – cored, sliced, and peeled

4 tablespoons real butter

2 tablespoons granulated white sugar

2 tablespoons light brown sugar

1/2 tablespoon lemon juice

Salt to taste

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup pecan pieces

Instructions

  1. Core, slice, and peel the apples.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
  3. Add sliced apples, white sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, salt, pecan pieces, and cinnamon to the skillet.
  4. Stir to combine, allowing the sugars to dissolve and coat the apples in a syrupy mixture.
  5. Cook and stir over medium-high heat for about 6 minutes, monitoring to prevent burning.
  6. Reduce heat to medium or medium-low if needed.
  7. Cover the skillet and cook for another 6 minutes on medium-low heat, until apples are fork-tender but not mushy.
  8. Serve hot as a side dish, breakfast addition, or dessert topping.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji for best texture.
  • Adjust sugar amounts to control sweetness.
  • Add vanilla extract or bourbon for extra flavor.
  • Omit pecans for a nut-free version.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
