Description
Cinnamon Southern Fried Apples with Pecans is a warm and cozy Southern-inspired dish made with tender apples caramelized in butter, sugar, and cinnamon, and topped with crunchy pecans. It’s versatile enough to be served as a side dish, dessert, or even breakfast.
Ingredients
5 apples – cored, sliced, and peeled
4 tablespoons real butter
2 tablespoons granulated white sugar
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
Salt to taste
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup pecan pieces
Instructions
- Core, slice, and peel the apples.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add sliced apples, white sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, salt, pecan pieces, and cinnamon to the skillet.
- Stir to combine, allowing the sugars to dissolve and coat the apples in a syrupy mixture.
- Cook and stir over medium-high heat for about 6 minutes, monitoring to prevent burning.
- Reduce heat to medium or medium-low if needed.
- Cover the skillet and cook for another 6 minutes on medium-low heat, until apples are fork-tender but not mushy.
- Serve hot as a side dish, breakfast addition, or dessert topping.
Notes
- Use firm apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji for best texture.
- Adjust sugar amounts to control sweetness.
- Add vanilla extract or bourbon for extra flavor.
- Omit pecans for a nut-free version.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
