These carrot fries are a healthy and tasty alternative to traditional potato fries, perfect as a snack or side dish. Crispy on the outside and tender inside, they are enhanced by a sprinkle of fresh parsley and your favorite dipping sauce.
Ingredients
Carrot Fries
- 1 lb carrots, peeled and cut into uniform fry shapes
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
Optional Garnish and Dipping
- Fresh parsley for garnish
- Sauce of choice for dipping (ketchup, ranch, pesto, or spicy mayo recommended)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Prepare the carrots: Peel the carrots and cut them into uniform fry shapes by halving or thirding them lengthwise, then cutting into thicker sticks. Consistent size helps achieve even cooking and crispiness.
- Mix the coating: In a large bowl, combine olive oil, grated parmesan cheese, cornstarch, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Coat the carrots: Add the carrot fries to the bowl and toss thoroughly to coat each piece evenly with the cheesy, spiced mixture.
- Arrange on baking sheet: Spread the coated carrots in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they do not overlap to ensure maximum crispiness.
- Bake the fries: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through to promote even browning. Watch closely towards the end to prevent burning.
- Garnish and serve: Once baked to crispy perfection, sprinkle fresh parsley over the fries and serve immediately with your preferred dipping sauce such as ketchup, ranch, pesto, or spicy mayo.
Notes
- Ensure fries are cut thicker than a julienne to avoid burning and achieve a crispy exterior with a tender interior.
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and aid in easy cleanup.
- If you want extra crispiness, you can broil the fries for an additional 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning.
- Carrot fries are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven but can be reheated in the oven to restore crispness.
