Ingredients
Chicken Wings
- 2 pounds chicken wings
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
- 1 ½ tablespoons cornstarch
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Honey Garlic Sauce
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- ½ cup honey (or maple syrup)
- ½ cup tomato passata (or ¼ cup tomato paste)
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seed oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Optional
- Freshly chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare wings: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking tray with parchment paper. In a small bowl, combine the kosher salt, cornstarch, ground black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder to create the seasoning mix.
- Season the wings: Place the 2 pounds of chicken wings on the prepared baking tray and drizzle with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Sprinkle the seasoning mix evenly over the wings and toss or mix thoroughly to coat each wing well.
- Bake the wings: Bake the wings in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time to ensure even crisping.
- Prepare the honey garlic sauce: While the wings are baking, mix together the low-sodium soy sauce, honey (or maple syrup), tomato passata (or tomato paste), toasted sesame seed oil, and garlic powder in a small bowl until well combined.
- Coat and finish baking: After 30 minutes of baking, remove the wings from the oven and drizzle the honey garlic sauce over them. Toss the wings gently to coat them evenly with the sauce, then return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes to let the sauce set and the wings become sticky and caramelized.
- Garnish and serve: Remove the wings from the oven and optionally garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving hot.
Notes
- Flip the wings carefully halfway through the initial baking to promote even crispiness.
- Use tomato passata for a thinner sauce or tomato paste for a thicker, more concentrated flavor.
- Maple syrup can be substituted for honey for a different type of sweetness.
- For extra crispiness, pat the wings dry before seasoning.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce or fresh vegetable sticks for a complete appetizer.
