Ingredients
Shrimp
- 1 lb jumbo shrimp peeled, deveined, rinsed & strained
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or any neutral oil
- 1 green onion finely chopped for garnish
- ½ teaspoon sesame seeds optional garnish
Shrimp Marinade
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch or tapioca starch
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon water (cold or room temperature)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or any neutral oil
Honey Garlic Sauce
- 5 cloves garlic minced
- ⅓ cup honey
- 2.5 tablespoon regular soy sauce or light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon water (cold or room temperature)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar/white vinegar
- ½ tablespoon sesame oil or any neutral oil
- ½ tablespoon cornstarch or tapioca starch
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp: Transfer shrimp to a large bowl after peeling, deveining, and rinsing with cold water. Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, ensuring the marinade sticks well.
- Marinate the Shrimp: Add the marinade ingredients—cornstarch, salt, black pepper, water, and vegetable oil—to the shrimp. Mix thoroughly and let it marinate for 15 minutes to enhance flavor and texture.
- Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In a small bowl, combine minced garlic, honey, soy sauce, water, vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Stir until the honey dissolves completely and set aside.
- Cook the Shrimp: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add shrimp and cook for about 60-90 seconds, flipping halfway through until 90% pink. Remove shrimp from the pan.
- Thicken the Sauce: Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the same pan and simmer over medium heat until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Combine Shrimp and Sauce: Return the shrimp to the pan and toss in the thickened sauce. Cook for an additional 20 seconds until shrimp turn fully pink and are cooked through. Remove from heat.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish the shrimp with finely chopped green onions and optional sesame seeds. Serve immediately and enjoy this flavorful dish!
Notes
- Make sure to pat shrimp dry before marinating to ensure better sauce adherence.
- You can substitute cornstarch with tapioca starch for a gluten-free option.
- Adjust the honey and soy sauce quantities to taste if you prefer either sweeter or saltier flavors.
- If you want a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes while cooking.
- The shrimp cooks quickly, so keep an eye on them to avoid overcooking and becoming rubbery.
