Greek Chicken Gyros are a flavorful Mediterranean dish featuring marinated grilled chicken, fresh vegetables, fluffy pita bread, and creamy homemade tzatziki sauce. Perfect for a quick dinner or casual gathering, this meal is light, customizable, and family-friendly.
Ingredients
1 ½ lbs chicken tenderloins
3 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp kosher salt
½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
6 pita flatbreads
2 cups romaine, shredded
1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered
½ red onion, thinly sliced
For the tzatziki sauce:
1 cup Greek yogurt
½ English cucumber, grated and squeezed dry
2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 tsp lemon zest
1 clove garlic, minced
½ tsp kosher salt
¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- In a large resealable bag, combine chicken tenderloins, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, turning occasionally.
- Preheat grill to medium heat. Grill chicken for about 8 minutes, turning occasionally, until fully cooked and internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Warm pita flatbreads on the grill for 1–2 minutes per side.
- Slice or halve the pitas and fill with grilled chicken, romaine, cherry tomatoes, and red onion.
- Top with tzatziki sauce and serve immediately.
- To make tzatziki: In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, cucumber, dill, lemon juice, lemon zest, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Refrigerate until ready to use.
