Description

This Miso Butter Salmon recipe combines the rich, savory flavors of miso and butter for a deliciously simple main course. With a quick 10-minute prep and a brief marinating time, the salmon absorbs a creamy miso butter mixture that adds depth and tenderness before being perfectly baked in the oven. Garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, this dish is ideal for a flavorful weeknight meal with an Asian-inspired twist.

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 2 salmon fillets (about 180g / 6.3 oz each)
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Green onions, chopped, for garnish (optional)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Miso Butter

  • 2 tablespoons miso paste
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ tablespoon ginger, grated
  • ½ tablespoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the miso butter: In a mixing bowl, combine miso paste, softened butter, honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and dried parsley. Mix well until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to get it ready for baking.
  3. Marinate the salmon: Pat dry the salmon fillets with paper towels, then season them with black pepper. Place the fillets in an oven-safe dish. Spread a generous amount of the prepared miso butter evenly over each fillet. Refrigerate and marinate the salmon for at least 30 minutes up to 1 hour to let the flavors meld and the miso butter firm up.
  4. Bake the salmon: Bake the salmon in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until it is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork, ensuring it remains tender inside.
  5. Garnish and serve: After baking, let the salmon rest a few minutes before garnishing with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve alongside steamed rice, quinoa, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use white or yellow miso paste for a milder, sweeter flavor; red miso will give a stronger, saltier taste.
  • Marinating the salmon after applying the miso butter helps the butter firm up, preventing it from melting too quickly while baking.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of your salmon fillets; adjust accordingly.
  • For a gluten-free option, ensure the soy sauce used is gluten-free tamari.
