Ingredients
Meat and Sauce
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp dried parsley
- ½ tsp salt
- pepper, to taste
- 28 oz marinara sauce
- ½ cup chicken broth
Cheese
- 4 oz mozzarella, shredded or sliced
- ¼ cup fresh Parmigiano Reggiano, grated
Pasta
- 24 oz potato gnocchi
Optional Garnish
- Fresh basil, for garnish
Instructions
- Brown the Beef: In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease to prevent the dish from becoming too oily.
- Sauté Aromatics and Seasonings: Add olive oil to the pan along with the chopped onion, minced garlic, onion powder, garlic powder, dried oregano, dried parsley, salt, and pepper. Cook everything together for 3 to 5 minutes until the onions soften and the mixture is fragrant.
- Add Sauce and Simmer: Stir in the marinara sauce and chicken broth. Reduce heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 20 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Cook the Gnocchi: Stir in the potato gnocchi, cover again, and simmer for an additional 10 minutes or until the gnocchi are tender and cooked through.
- Add Cheese: Stir in the shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese, allowing it to melt evenly throughout the dish.
- Top with Parmigiano Reggiano: Sprinkle the grated Parmigiano Reggiano over the top for a nutty, salty finish.
- Serve: Optionally garnish with fresh basil and serve warm. Enjoy a delicious, hearty stovetop lasagna without using the oven.
Notes
- Gnocchi cook quickly on the stovetop; be sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- You can use store-bought or homemade marinara sauce depending on preference.
- For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with sautéed mushrooms or plant-based crumbles and use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
- If you prefer a spicier flavor, add crushed red pepper flakes when sautéing the aromatics.
- Fresh basil adds a nice, fresh aroma and flavor but can be omitted if unavailable.
