Description

These turkey sausage patties with sweet potato are a healthy, protein-rich, and flavorful option perfect for breakfast, lunch, or meal prep. Naturally gluten-free, paleo, AIP, and Whole30-friendly, they’re nourishing, freezer-friendly, and easy to make in batches.

Ingredients

1 medium to large sweet potato, peeled and diced into cubes

1 lb (450–500 g) ground turkey (lean)

1 clove garlic, grated

1 medium white onion, finely diced

1 teaspoon mixed dried herbs (such as Italian blend)

⅔ teaspoon sea salt

½ teaspoon white pepper (or black pepper; omit for AIP)

1 teaspoon turmeric powder (optional)

A pinch of nutmeg (optional)

2 tablespoons tapioca flour or cassava flour (or gluten-free flour)

Instructions

  1. Boil water and add cubed sweet potato with ½ teaspoon of salt. Cook for 10–12 minutes until tender. Drain and let cool.
  2. Preheat the oven to 200°C / 400°F.
  3. Mash enough sweet potato to measure about 1 cup. Place in a large bowl along with ground turkey, garlic, onion, herbs, salt, pepper, turmeric, and nutmeg. Mix by hand until well combined.
  4. Add the flour and mix until the mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and lightly brush with oil. Wet your hands, roll the mixture into 12 patties, and place them on the tray.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes on the middle rack, until golden on top and browned on the bottom.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving or storing.

Notes

Add fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro for extra freshness.

Mix in grated apple or zucchini for added flavor and moisture.

Swap turkey for ground chicken if preferred.

Add chili flakes, paprika, or cayenne for a spicier version.

Store leftovers in the fridge up to 4 days or freeze up to 2 months.

Reheat in a skillet or oven for best texture.
