Description
This creamy White Bean Garlic Hummus is a delicious twist on traditional hummus, using great northern white beans blended with roasted garlic, lemon juice, and cumin for a flavorful and smooth dip. Perfectly seasoned with a hint of red pepper flakes, this hummus is ideal as a healthy snack or appetizer served with crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetables.
Ingredients
Hummus Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons fresh garlic, sliced
- Two 15.8 ounce cans Great Northern White Beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 Teaspoon cumin
- 1 pinch red pepper flakes
- 1 Teaspoon salt
- 1 Teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Roast the garlic: Place the olive oil and sliced garlic in a medium saucepan over low to medium heat. Cook the garlic until it turns a light brown color, releasing its aroma and flavor. Once browned, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
- Separate garlic and oil: Strain the mixture with a sieve to separate the garlic from the oil. Place the roasted garlic slices in a small bowl and the olive oil in another.
- Blend the beans and flavorings: In a food processor, add the rinsed and drained white beans, roasted garlic slices, lemon juice, and cumin. Process until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
- Incorporate the olive oil: With the food processor running, slowly pour the reserved olive oil in a steady stream into the bean mixture. This helps to emulsify and give the hummus a smooth texture.
- Season the hummus: Add the salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to the food processor. Process again briefly to combine all flavors evenly.
- Chill and serve: Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl and refrigerate until cold. Serve chilled with crackers, tortilla chips, or cut vegetables for dipping.
Notes
- You can add fresh parsley to the food processor for additional herbal flavor if desired.
- Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to control the spice level to your preference.
- For a smoother hummus, peel the beans before blending, though this is optional.
- This hummus can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- To make this recipe vegan, ensure the chips or crackers served are vegan-friendly.
