Description

A classic and comforting Apple and Blueberry Crumble featuring a crispy oat topping over a juicy, cinnamon-spiced fruit filling. Perfectly baked until golden and served warm, this dessert combines tart blueberries and sweet apples with a buttery, crumbly oat topping for a delightful treat.

Ingredients

Crumble Topping

  • 100 gr (6 1/2 tablespoons) Unsalted Butter (melted)
  • 100 gr (2/3 cup) Plain / All-Purpose Flour
  • 100 gr (1 cup) Rolled Oats
  • 100 gr (1/2 cup) Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Fruit Filling

  • 4 large Apples (equivalent to 500 gr once diced)
  • 300 gr (10.5 oz) Blueberries (fresh or frozen & thawed)
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) Lemon Juice
  • 70 gr (1/3 cup) Brown Sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon Cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oat Crumble Topping: Melt the butter in a saucepan or microwave and set it aside to cool slightly. In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Pour in the slightly cooled melted butter and mix well with a spatula or your hands until the mixture forms small crumbs. Set this crumble topping aside.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) to preheat while you prepare the filling.
  3. Prepare the Fruit Filling: Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks. Place them in a mixing bowl along with the blueberries. Add lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Gently stir everything together until the fruit is evenly coated and the ingredients are well combined.
  4. Assemble the Crumble: Transfer the prepared fruit filling into a 20 x 28 cm (8 x 11.5-inch) baking dish. Evenly cover the fruit with the oat crumble topping, spreading it gently to cover all the fruit.
  5. Bake the Crumble: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes. Bake until the crumble topping is crispy and golden brown, and the fruit filling is soft and juicy.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the crumble from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool slightly. Serve the crumble lukewarm for the best taste and texture experience.

Notes

  • For crumbly topping consistency, ensure the melted butter is slightly cooled but still liquid when mixing to coat the dry ingredients properly.
  • Chop apple pieces into uniform small chunks to ensure even cooking and ideal texture in the filling.
  • Frozen blueberries should be thawed before mixing to avoid excess moisture affecting the crumble.
  • This recipe works well served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
