Description

This vibrant Avocado Jalapeño Sauce is a creamy, tangy, and mildly spicy condiment perfect for adding a fresh kick to tacos, grilled meats, or as a dip. Made with boiled tomatillos, jalapeños, and garlic blended with ripe avocado and fresh cilantro, this sauce comes together quickly in about 15 minutes, delivering a smooth and flavorful addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 3 tomatillos, husked and rinsed
  • 3 jalapeños
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • ½ white onion
  • 1 avocado, large and ripe
  • ½ cup cilantro, fresh

Seasonings & Others

  • ½ lime, juiced (or more to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Boil the vegetables: Bring water to a low boil in a pot. Carefully add the tomatillos, jalapeños, onion, and garlic. Maintain the low boil and cook for about 8 minutes, until the vegetables are tender and slightly softened.
  2. Prepare ingredients for blending: Using tongs, remove the jalapeños from the water and carefully trim off the stems with kitchen shears if desired. Transfer all boiled ingredients to a blender, then add the ripe avocado, fresh cilantro, lime juice, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Blend until smooth: Blitz the mixture in the blender for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until the sauce is creamy and well combined with no large chunks remaining.
  4. Store and serve: Transfer the sauce into a bowl and use a spatula to scrape down the sides. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Enjoy as a flavorful topping or dip!

Notes

  • For a milder sauce, remove seeds from jalapeños before boiling.
  • Adjust lime juice and salt to taste for preferred tanginess and seasoning level.
  • This sauce pairs beautifully with grilled meats, tacos, roasted vegetables, or as a creamy dip for chips.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; avocado may darken but flavor remains great.
  • Use fresh tomatillos for best flavor; canned or preserved tomatillos will alter the taste and texture.
