Description

Delight in the best of both worlds with these Banana Bread Brownies—a luscious fusion of rich, fudgy chocolate brownies swirled with moist, naturally sweet banana bread. This recipe combines the intense cocoa flavor and chocolate chips of classic brownies with the comforting taste and texture of banana bread, resulting in irresistibly moist, marbled bars perfect for any dessert lover.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup ripe bananas, mashed (approximately 1 large banana)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it well to prevent sticking.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until thoroughly combined. Set aside.
  3. Brown the butter: Melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking it while whisking constantly until the butter foams, then browns with little brown specks and releases a toasted aroma. Remove from heat promptly to avoid burning.
  4. Prepare batter base: Allow the browned butter to cool slightly, then stir in the granulated sugar and vanilla bean paste. Beat in the eggs one at a time with a spoon until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous. Gradually add the dry ingredients into this mixture, stirring gently until the batter is evenly moistened and smooth. Divide the batter evenly into two separate bowls.
  5. Make the chocolate batter: In one bowl, fold in the cocoa powder and mini chocolate chips thoroughly. This chocolate batter will be thick and rich.
  6. Make the banana batter: In the other bowl, gently fold in the mashed ripe bananas until well incorporated.
  7. Assemble the banana bread brownies: Spread half of the chocolate batter evenly on the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Next, spread all of the banana batter on top of the chocolate layer. Then, spoon or pipe the remaining chocolate batter over the banana layer in lines. Using a butter knife or spatula, gently swirl the batters together to create a beautiful marbled effect.
  8. Bake: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes. The brownies are done when they begin to pull away from the sides of the pan and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool and serve: Allow the banana bread brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into 16 squares. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Be sure to brown the butter carefully to avoid burning; the nutty aroma is key to flavor.
  • Use ripe bananas for maximum sweetness and moisture.
  • Dividing the batter allows for the distinct banana and chocolate layers with swirled marbling.
  • Allow brownies to cool fully to ensure clean slicing.
  • Storage: Keep brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
