Ingredients
Cereal Mix
- 4 cups Chex cereal
- 2 cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Chocolate Coating
- 12 oz white chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon shortening or coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
- 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon (divided)
Cinnamon Sugar Mix
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and set aside to have a cooling and setting surface ready.
- Combine Cereals: In a large bowl, add 4 cups Chex cereal and 2 cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Gently toss them together to evenly mix the cereals.
- Make Cinnamon Sugar Mix: In a large zip-top bag, combine 3/4 cup powdered sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Seal the bag and shake well to thoroughly mix the cinnamon sugar. Set aside for later coating.
- Melt White Chocolate: Melt the 12 oz of white chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth and fully melted.
- Add Flavorings to Chocolate: Stir the white chocolate together with 1 tablespoon shortening or coconut oil, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste, and the remaining 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon until the mixture is smooth and fragrant.
- Coat the Cereals: Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the combined cereals. Gently fold the cereals to coat them evenly and thoroughly in the chocolate.
- Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Transfer the chocolate-coated cereals to the prepared zip-top bag containing the cinnamon sugar mixture. Seal and shake the bag until all the pieces are fully coated with the cinnamon sugar.
- Set the Puppy Chow: Spread the coated mixture onto the prepared baking sheet in an even layer. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes until the coating has set and is no longer sticky.
Notes
- Shortening or coconut oil helps to thin the melted white chocolate for easier coating.
- Using vanilla bean paste adds a richer vanilla flavor compared to vanilla extract.
- Ensure to shake the coated cereal well to get an even dusting of cinnamon sugar on every piece.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
- Feel free to swap white chocolate chips with semi-sweet chocolate chips for a different flavor.
