Ingredients
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5–8 oz. each)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 3 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon flour
- Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Sauce
- 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 (1 oz.) packet Ranch seasoning mix
Instructions
- Pound and Season Chicken: Using a meat mallet, pound the chicken breasts to an even 1-inch thickness. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
- Sear Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter and add the olive oil. Place the chicken breasts in the skillet and sear each side until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the chicken to a plate and set aside.
- Make the Roux: Lower heat to low and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Stir in the flour and cook for about one minute, whisking constantly to create a roux.
- Add Chicken Broth: Slowly pour in the chicken broth while scraping up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan to enhance flavor.
- Add Remaining Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the milk, sour cream, onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and ranch seasoning mix. Mix well until the sour cream and ranch seasoning fully dissolve and the sauce is smooth.
- Simmer Chicken in Sauce: Return the chicken breasts and any accumulated juices back to the pan. Spoon the sauce over the chicken and let it simmer gently until the chicken is heated through and the sauce thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
- Serve: Plate the chicken, spoon extra sauce on top, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot.
- Enjoy: Dig in and enjoy this creamy, flavorful ranch chicken dish!
Notes
- To ensure even cooking, pound chicken breasts to uniform thickness.
- Using low sodium chicken broth helps control the saltiness of the dish.
- If the sauce becomes too thick, thin it out with a splash of milk or broth.
- Fresh parsley garnish adds a pop of color and freshness but is optional.
- This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or rice.
