Description
This quick and easy White Pizza Sauce recipe delivers a creamy, flavorful alternative to traditional tomato sauce. Made with simple pantry ingredients like butter, flour, milk, and parmesan, it comes together in just 5 minutes and adds a rich, garlicky touch to your homemade pizza or pasta dishes.
Ingredients
White Pizza Sauce Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole milk)
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
- 2 garlic cloves (pressed or finely grated)
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese (shredded)
Instructions
- Melt Butter and Make Roux: Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and continue whisking for 1-2 minutes, ensuring the mixture does not brown to create a smooth roux base.
- Add Milk Gradually: Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture becomes smooth, thickened, and starts to bubble gently.
- Season the Sauce: Whisk in the sea salt, black pepper, and pressed or finely grated garlic to infuse the sauce with savory flavor.
- Incorporate Parmesan Cheese: Add the shredded parmesan cheese and whisk continuously for about 30 seconds until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
- Cool and Store: Remove the saucepan from heat and continue whisking just until smooth to prevent curdling. Allow the sauce to cool before using it on pizza. Once cooled, cover and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
Notes
- Do not allow the roux to brown when cooking the butter and flour; this keeps the sauce light and creamy.
- Add milk slowly and whisk constantly to prevent lumps in the sauce.
- Do not boil the sauce after adding parmesan cheese to avoid curdling.
- Use freshly grated parmesan for the best melting and flavor.
- This sauce pairs excellently with white pizza, pasta, or as a creamy dip.
- For a thinner sauce, add a bit more milk until desired consistency is reached.
