Description

This Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread is a moist and flavorful quick bread perfect for fall. Combining the natural sweetness and moisture of pumpkin puree with warm pumpkin pie spice and rich chocolate chips, this recipe yields tender slices that are ideal for breakfast or a cozy dessert.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 can pure pumpkin puree (15 ounces)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice

Add-ins

  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 inch loaf pans to ensure the bread does not stick.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a stand mixer bowl fitted with a paddle attachment, or a large bowl if mixing by hand, combine the pumpkin puree, eggs, vegetable oil, water, vanilla bean paste, and sugar. Mix these ingredients until well blended and smooth.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, kosher salt, and pumpkin pie spice. Make sure the mixture is well combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually stir the dry ingredient mixture into the wet pumpkin mixture until just blended. Be careful not to overmix to keep the bread tender. Then gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  5. Fill Pans and Bake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared loaf pans. Place them in the preheated oven and bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.

Notes

  • Use pumpkin pie spice or a homemade blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves for authentic flavor.
  • Ensure not to overmix the batter once dry ingredients are added to maintain a tender crumb.
  • Check bread at 60 minutes and adjust baking time as ovens vary.
  • Loaves can be wrapped and stored at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for longer freshness.
  • For a nutty variation, add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans along with chocolate chips.
